Like Never Before

October 9th, 2007

To be driven by an experience we’ve never had points to some underlying hope or expectation. Why would we pursue (with direct intention) what we did not want? When the idea first came to me, I was anticipating my future wedding/marriage. There was so much hope and excitement. It seemed like everything I did was in some way driven by that sense of anticipation.

In the grander scheme, this points to an internal desire for something greater – to be a part of something big, and to experience the truly overwhelming. There is nothing more overwhelming than the true nature of God – of who He is. The bible describes God by saying, “in his presence there is fullness of joy.” It is that type of experience we constantly long for and are driven by.

“If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, p.136

With A Message

October 9th, 2007

Notice the little phrase “talk it out.”

So many problems in relationships could be solved if people actually talked and listened to each other. Talk about anything from desires to problems to dreams to unmet expectations. Please take the time to seriously talk and listen to people.

Skyline

The original photograph that this design was based on was taken on Desire Street, in New Orleans, LA. Desire St. is located in the 9th ward, which (before Katrina) was one of the most violent, distressed, and hurting neighborhoods in the country.

I wanted to show how things could be turned from something difficult (and in many ways ugly) into something appealing, new, purposeful and enjoyable.

If you would like more information on Desire St. or how to be a part of impacting that neighborhood in a positive way, check out www.desirestreet.org

Roots In Reality

October 9th, 2007

There are many metaphors for trees and roots.

Here’s one of my favorites: “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields it fruits in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all he does, he prospers.“ (Psalm 1:2) – which seems to describe people who trust in the Lord. Trees are dependable, solid, and life-giving.

Plant your roots deeply.

Welcome to Mode Apparel

September 25th, 2007

Welcome! Thanks for checking out the new modeapparel blog!

modeapparel is about a movement of people who want unique apparel designs to inspire them to live by what they believe.

We believe in God, and that His creativity is expressed in people – through their creativity. As noted in the about section of our website, we design as inspired by life, ideas, music, nature, philosophies, etc. – and all these things (being created) point to something greater, their Creator. Ultimately, it is not about us, or designs, t-shirts, or anything other than God and His glory.

Through this blog, get into the head of the people who designed what modeapparel offers and hear what inspired them or what they were thinking as they created the designs. It’s not required to be able to enjoy the designs, but you’ll have a deeper appreciation for what you’re enjoying.  Please feel free to join us.

Thanks for being.
